New York Storm & Wind Claims

Storm and wind damage claims for New York homes and buildings.

Wind can open the building envelope. Rain that follows is not always treated the same as flood. Triboro documents what the storm did to the structure, finishes, and contents—and challenges estimates that stop at temporary tarp work.

What Triboro Addresses

The claim should follow the storm path—not just the first wet ceiling.

1

Roof, siding, windows, and openings

Document wind-created openings, failed fasteners, damaged coverings, and related exterior work the repair actually requires.

2

Interior water after a storm opening

Water through a storm-damaged roof or window is analyzed differently from rising outside flood water. The source controls which coverage responds.

3

Tree, fence, detached structure, and debris

Policies treat these items differently. Match each damaged item to the correct coverage and limit instead of accepting a single short estimate.

4

Wear-and-tear vs. storm event

Carriers often call roof or siding damage “old.” Separate pre-existing condition from sudden storm damage with photographs, weather timing, and repair history when available.

Claim Questions

Coverage questions to review against your policy.

Is wind damage covered under a homeowners policy?

Sudden wind damage to the dwelling is commonly covered, subject to deductibles, exclusions, and endorsements. The exact payment depends on the policy and the documented damage.

What if rain entered after wind damaged the roof?

Rain entering through a storm-created opening is generally analyzed under the wind/storm and ensuing-water provisions of the property policy—not automatically as “flood.”

Is flood the same as storm water inside my house?

No. Flood generally means rising outside surface water. Interior water through a wind-created opening is a different analysis. The physical source controls which coverage responds.

Why was my storm claim underpaid?

Estimates may fund temporary protection only, miss matching requirements, omit interior finishes, or price labor and materials below what the repair requires.

Should I wait for the carrier before tarping?

Protect the property from further damage when it is safe to do so, keep receipts, and photograph conditions before and after emergency work. Prompt notice to the insurer still matters.

Can Triboro review a claim after a partial storm payment?

Yes. A prior payment does not prove every damaged area was included. Triboro compares the estimate with the observed damage and policy.

Important: This is general claim guidance for New York property owners. Your coverage is controlled by the wording, exclusions, endorsements, limits, facts, and deadlines in your policy.
